Low Lying Fruit of Christianity

  • by

The HEALING of the tongue is a tree of life, And the one who GUARDS it will be FILLED with the SPIRIT (Prov 15:4 LXX) .

The low lying fruit of our branches – the most easily noticed and tasted words that come out of our mouth and that go deep into others either bring LIFE or DEATH to the hearer – either healing old wounds or creating fresh, deep wounds. Not only that, but those words either PLEASE or GRIEVE the Holy Spirit, both resulting in activity from the Spirit in FILLING or WITHDRAWING.Low Lying Fruit of Christianity

The Lord is my Shepherd

  • by

The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He makes me to lie down in green pastures; He leads me beside the still waters. He restores my soul; He leads me in the paths of righteousness For His name’s sake. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me. You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; You anoint my head with oil; My cup runs over. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me All the days of my life; And I will dwell in the house of the Lord to the end of my days. (Ps 22 LXX/23 Mes)

A few observations  struck me this morning as I lay reciting this beautiful passage of Promise…

Christ is our Provision

The overarching theme is this: the Lord has given us ALL things, therefore we should not be lacking. In Christ, we have EVERYTHING needful for life and godliness.The Lord is my Shepherd

Just As JESUS Did

  • by

Are we to do JUST AS Jesus did? Some bristle at a statement like that. We have been taught that Jesus’ work was unique and a onetime act. Yes, and no.

Yes, in that Jesus’ life, ministry, death, and resurrection happened ONCE FOR ALL and then He sat down, no one else BUT the incarnate Christ could accomplish.  There could not have been another Lamb of God slain before the foundation of the world. No more sacrifice for sin… ever. It is finished!

And yet, in a much broader sense, Jesus’ work had only just begun. They tried to kill His BODY on this earth, only to find it “rebuilt” in three days, and now rapidly multiplying in size.Just As JESUS Did

Only What’s Done for Christ Will Last

  • by

I have often heard the line “Only what’s done for Christ will last”, but only recently read the whole of the poem. Here is the whole of the oft-quoted poem by CT Studd:

“Two little lines I heard one day,
Traveling along life’s busy way;
Bringing conviction to my heart,
And from my mind would not depart;
Only one life, ’twill soon be past,
Only what’s done for Christ will last.Only What’s Done for Christ Will Last
