“Knowing God” – Part 3

Beloved, here’s another example of how prolific this message of Knowing God or “thinking the things of the Spirit” is in the whole counsel of God. Our late brother David Wilkerson brings it to the forefront in this exhortation (below).

In case you missed the first two exhortations on Knowing God, there are here:

As you read David’s exhortation and see the word REPENT, understand that this word is not JUST sorrow over sin, but a changing of one’s thinking toward the things of the Spirit of God and of Christ, and away from the spirit of this Age and of our flesh.

REPENT: gk, metanoeo. To think differently, that is to reconsider. Thayer’s says: to change one’s mind for better.

Repentance is key to becoming acquainted and intimate with God, or in other words, “knowing God”.

REMOVING the CANDLESTICK by David Wilkerson

In Revelation 2:5, Christ gives us a word that lets us know we had better take heed. He says, “Repent, and do the first works; or else I will come unto thee quickly, and will remove thy candlestick.”

Good morning, saints. Glory to Jesus!

The Lord took me to a wonderful example of those who “know” God and those who don’t.

“For the ones being according to flesh think the things of flesh, but the ones according to the Spirit think the things of the Spirit.”

This passage is found in Romans 8, verses 5 through 14. First we can read it in the NKJV version:

Romans 8:5ff (NKJV)
For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit, the things of the Spirit. For to be carnally minded is death, but to be spiritually minded is life and peace. Because the carnal mind is enmity against God; for it is not subject to the law of God, nor indeed can be. So then, those who are in the flesh cannot please God. But you are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God dwells in you. Now if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he is not His. And if Christ is in you, the body is dead because of sin, but the Spirit is life because of righteousness. But if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, He who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit who dwells in you. Therefore, brethren, we are debtors—not to the flesh, to live according to the flesh. For if you live according to the flesh you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live. For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God.

Notice the promises of God in the latter part of this passage:

  1. If Christ is in you, the body is dead and the Spirit is LIFE
  2. If the Spirit of Christ dwells in you, He will give LIFE to your mortal bodies through His Spirit
  3. In Christ, our debt to serve the flesh has been cancelled, and the flesh no longer has power over us (unless we decide not to believe God about what He just promised)
  4. The Spirit enables us to destroy the fleshly deeds of the Body. And in so doing we will have and experience (now) ETERNAL LIFE!

Dear precious saints of the Most High God,

The Lord impressed upon me the need to send topical study challenges and encouragements. For now, I’m posting this. The goal is to provide a study foundation upon which all may build. I also am challenging us to memorize key verses associated with each topic.

The Lord provided the topic of “Knowing God” which is the foundation of eternal life, which comes from Jesus in John 17:3 (the first suggested memory verse).

John 17:3
And this is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent.

God is Bigger than our Biggest Failures

  • by

God is bigger than our biggest failures. Because, “where sin abounded, grace abounded much more, so that as sin reigned in death, even so grace might reign through righteousness to eternal life through JESUS CHRIST our Lord.” (Romans 5:20–21) What awesome news!

In a surrendered life to Christ, we become more… MUCH more, much bigger and higher than who we once were. We soar above our painful past as we ride on the wings of His hope. This is the HOPE for ALL of an abundant life relationship with the living Jesus, today!

Jesus says with such confidence and Kingdom audacity that wicked sinners – those the world looks down upon – who recognize their need and who come to Him will enter the Kingdom of God before those who think they are not in need of God.

The Weak find Strength In Jesus

Jesus is looking for those who’ve run out of options; those at the end of their rope; all who are weary and without hope and strength in any other means of help.

Are we at this place today? We could’ve had a salvation experience years ago, but are we walking in a palpable  state of God’s freeing grace, forgiveness, and power today?Read More »God is Bigger than our Biggest Failures
