Too “Heavenly-Minded” to be any Earthly Good?

  • by

Why is it that the earthly-minded accuse those who might dare to believe and imitate God (Eph 5) with “He is too heavenly-minded to be any earthly good!”?

Sounds so “smart” and sensible, doesn’t it? It’s practical, pragmatic. “Religion is ‘good’, but it must have it’s place”, they will say. What they mean to say is that this “God business” must be subjugated to a lesser prominence than the important issues and cares of this life.

But can we be “too” heavenly-minded?Too “Heavenly-Minded” to be any Earthly Good?

The “Eternal Purpose” of God

Meditate on this Truth of God FOR and IN US — those who believe in the mind-transforming promises of God!

Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us, to Him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus to all generations, forever and ever. Amen. (Eph 3:20-21)

Paul’s use of  “exceedingly abundantly above all” sounds very similar to his use of “width and length and depth and height” in describing the love of Christ; the fulness of God in the preceding verses (Eph 3:18-19).

Just how BIG or GREAT or MASSIVE is this power that Paul is trying to convey? The “Eternal Purpose” of God

Mistaken Beauty

When the messengers of John had departed, He began to speak to the multitudes concerning John: “What did you go out into the wilderness to see?… But what did you go out to see?… But what did you go out to see? A prophet? Yes, I say to you, and more than a prophet.” (Luke 7:24-27)

This was what the Lord spoke deep into my heart the morning following our visit to the Grand Canyon. For a while now my lovely wife and sister in the Lord has desired to see the Grand Canyon, but how would it happen? And I have had an appreciation for this grand “attraction” being so overjoyed with the evidence the Grand Canyon provides believers for the scientific undergirding of God’s Creation account and especially for those indoctrinated in the “faith” of Evolution, that when we had the opportunity to visit on our way to California to attend a funeral, we all agreed to take the time to visit.Mistaken Beauty

Proof of God’s love… Beer?

  • by

Two days ago we moved from “Big House in the Wildwood” to “Little Cabin on the Back Forty.” God heard our cry, answered our prayers, and delivered us. A testimony of God’s grace and… His LOVE.

On that day, as we came across a quaint restaurant overlooking the Missouri river to commemorate this momentous occasion, I was shocked to see the following quote (mis)attributed to Benjamin Franklin:

“Beer is proof that God loves us and wants us to be happy”

I lost my appetite.Proof of God’s love… Beer?
